Dan Henry is a very special patient of the La Pine Heart ‘n Home team. Dan served as a Volunteer for Heart ‘n Home through the Band of Brothers before becoming a patient. Dan’s life has included service in the military and firefighting. He is very loved by his community and the Band of Brothers. You may recognize Dan from our blog post about his Veteran Pinning Ceremony. Dan is also an extraordinary artist. You can see some artwork and read his story in our last Volunteer Focus Newsletter.
As Dan experienced changes in his health, he worked with his Care Navigator (Social Worker), Mandy, to identify how to keep him comfortable at home. Due to COVID and Dan’s declining health, he is often homebound. So the focus became on ways to make his home more comfortable. Dan desired to have a TV in his room and a gaming system to play video games with his son and grandson. With this in mind, Mandy assisted him with applying to The Dream Foundation for a “last wish request.” The Dream Foundation serves terminally-ill adults and their families by providing end-of-life dreams that offer inspiration, comfort, and closure.
Dan’s wish was granted by The Dream Foundation and to celebrate this incredible gift, our team helped him celebrate with a small event at his home with some of his family. Dan’s hospice team provided him with a congratulatory cake and flowers to commemorate this wish. This event was very fulfilling for Dan as he was surrounded by those closest to him.
