Ruby Braun has been a Volunteer for Heart ‘n Home since October 2007, and has been involved as a hospice Volunteer since 1993. Ruby is from Cambridge and she visits patients from her hometown and also the Council area. Ruby is always willing to help those in need and always goes the extra mile by bringing her patients something to cheer them up. She has brought flowers from her garden and also her famous homemade doughnuts. Her patients love her! Ruby is also a Specialized Volunteer and is trained in Bereavement as well as 11th hour in case she is ever needed to fulfill the mission that no patient should die alone. Ruby has fit volunteering into her schedule on a weekly basis for at least the last five years and she selflessly gives to others without thinking of herself.
Ruby was born in Cambridge and says, “I’ve never left!” She met her husband, Roy her senior year of high school and they have been married for 48 years (If you ask Roy how long they’ve been married he says, “All my life.”). Roy and Ruby have two daughters and two grandchildren. They both stay active traveling around to their different ball games. Ruby is also very active in the Community Baptist Church. She has been in charge of the funeral dinners for over 40 years. Ruby loves her community and it shows! She states, “I just enjoy doing my job and visiting my patients.”
Thank you, Ruby, for all you do as a Heart ‘n Home Volunteer!
