Terry, a 66-year-old man who had recently retired from working full time at his business was on the verge of an easy, breezy life of travel and leisure when he was diagnosed with metastatic pancreatic cancer shortly after an illness on his family vacation to Hawaii.
The care team worked very hard with this family and there were times we wondered if there would be a possibility of any happy ending. Through the gift of hospice, we were able to walk alongside this family. What could have been a very lonely, painful death on the streets of Portland became a time for healing and connecting. He died safe, comfortable, and surrounded by a family that had the courage and strength to look past the pain he had caused and just love him.
