Youth Volunteers Make Fidget Blankets for Alzheimer’s Patients
Amidst all of the hustle and bustle at the beginning of an exciting and blessed holiday season, the Heart ‘n Home Cicely Ambassadors did some extraordinary work for the elderly community. Kimi Pedracini, Cicely Ambassador shared, “Fidget blankets have been fundraised and assembled by a young and select group of Youth Volunteers to give back to the old folks with Dementia or Alzheimer’s who have trouble staying still or remaining calm. As a coping mechanism, the blankets consist of various materials sewn onto a piece of fabric, allowing for hospice patients to play or “fidget” with the fleece. The Cicely Ambassadors have been working
together since the end of July; strategizing how to profit the expenses, where the project should be held, and how to spread the word throughout the valley. This young team of unique Volunteers is comprised of high school students throughout the Oregon-Idaho border.
Together we are achieving something more significant and giving back to the beautiful community we have been blessed to be raised in. All of this incredible work could not have been done without the help of the Fruitland Volunteer Coordinator, Gwen Bennion. Together, this group constructed several blankets necessary for the beautiful hospice patients in our area, making the Winter Service Project for 2017, one for the books!”
